An Unlucky Golfer

Golf can be a shit. It can be unfair. Michael Weaver had a putt to win the 2012 US Amateur Championship – it missed. I can’t recall ever seeing a bigger lip out on a winning putt. Check out the video.

Weaver was 2 up with two to go. He lost 17 to a birdie and then had that putt to win. Not sure he could have hit a better putt – the stupid ball just didn’t want to go home. Steven Fox birdied the 37th hole for an unlikely victory.

Weaver’s reaction to losing probably sums up what most of us would feel like doing.

I’m hoping he isn’t too hard on himself and he is able to come back from the disappointment. Golf is cruel sometimes and the best lessons occur when things don’t go our way. And sometimes we’re just flat out unlucky.

Great to see a putt up close like that, looked like it was hit spot on, took a little bump half way on it’s path that sent it slightly of line then almost half the ball was in the hole before jumping out.
At times like that it is useful to remember a quote I read on this website and now use as part of my golf philosophy. “Be clear of your intention and accepting of the result”

Andrew: That line came from Scotty Barrow. Not sure where he got it from but it’s a good one.
