Scott reveals the real secret to better golf

Most golfers are guilty of the same mistake. We take our eye off the ball. And I don’t mean literally.

There are so many distractions that we can forget about why we are teeing the ball up. New technology, swing theories and processes can all get in the way. So what’s this big mistake?

Not playing the game.

When you’re playing the game you bypass all the BS. There’s no right or wrong. You’re maximising your chances of playing well and learning along the way. When you’re truly playing, you’re not getting in your own way. Playing is pure – anything else doesn’t quite stack up.

Scott is a master coach and sometimes he says the most profound things.

“Choose a club to do the task that’s required and then hit that ball. Be accepting of the result and move on. Repeat until you sink that final putt. This is playing the game and is the most important thing you can do. Thoughts of score, technique and right and wrong do not really matter. Play the game.”

Sounds too simple. And it is. But it’s also easy to ignore, to move on and try something else. In a perfect coaching world this instruction is all that would be needed. My challenge today is for you to heed Scott’s words. Take them with you to the course and play the game. Share your thoughts below.

Scott has been coaching me for a few years now. In that time I’ve done some things I never thought I’d be able to do – write a book, develop and run a seminar and co-create a radio show. If you need some motivation to achieve more then Scott’s your man. Visit his website to see if this is something that could work for you.
