So what?

My swing is no good…

So what?

But I’m worried I’ll hit the ball into the trees

So what?

But I’ll make a bad score.

So what?

I’ll look stupid to my mates.

So what?

And my handicap will go out.

So what?

And I won’t feel too good.

So what?

But I want to play well.

So what?

But I just want to shoot a good score.

So what?

I suppose I should just go play …

Either you’ve got the courage to tee your ball and whack the shit out of it or you don’t. If you can’t play like there’s no tomorrow then no amount of lessons, new clubs and practice time is going to help you.

If you can’t get past the “so what?” then you might be better off with tennis or lawn bowls.

In my opinion, experience earns you skill. The more you do something, the better you get. If youre beating balls in the range or working on technical things, thats what you will get good at. Really, just to go out on the course and try to hit different shots is what I believe will get you a better score.

Basically, people dont seem to know how scratch players are able to shoot par or under with such terrible swings. Most of them are older guys and can beat the living crap out of you while appearing that theyre not even trying. It is because theyve had enough time playing the course and not just smacking balls that they know the trouble spots, they know how to get around the course without making too many mistakes, and if they do make one they have the experience to play safe.

I shot my second 44 for 9 holes the other week. Obviously ive had some time to work on it. Naturally, ive only played maybe 40 actual full rounds of 9 holes. Otherwise im in the backyard trying to hit different shots. I fade, draw, high low whatever, and I usually am able to pull them off.

Basically, the more you do something, the better you get.

Play golf. Do what you can. Eventually youll reach your potential.
